I have seen it grow over the past few years and it has become a great event which brings the whole region together for four days of fun and entertainment. “Come along and try some of our pies and pasties and take part in our fun competitions. “I look forward to meeting customers old and new at the event.” AR Jones has outlets in Marsh and Brighouse, offering top quality meat and poultry. The event, now in its fifth year, will run between 9.00am and 4.00pm on Saturday 11th June. Huddersfield Town Centre Association in conjunction with the National Trust Marsden Moor Estate say more than 20 stalls will again sell a large range of hardy plants, annuals and more unusual varieties from local and regional specialist nurseries. Alison Campbell of the Town Centre Association said “My advice is to arrive early. There is a huge choice and the stall holders can offer expert advice. With more nurseries attending and a greater variety of plants this is a unique chance for gardeners to enjoy a choice rarely available in the region”. Assistant Town Centre Manager Julia Lilof said “The judges aren’t just looking at our hanging baskets they will be looking for a clean well cared for environment. Last year the town did really well in a smaller category, winning the Tidiest Town in Yorkshire and Humber Region and coming second in its ‘In Bloom’ class and it would be great if we could repeat or better our result in the new category. Everyone has worked really hard in preparation for the judges visit and it is an excellent example of how all Kirklees services, the private sector and community groups can come together to work for the benefit of the area”. The second of the year’s plant sales is then being held on Saturday 16th July. Town Centre Manager, Cathy Burger said “the sale in June was the busiest so far and our advice to gardeners is to come early to avoid disappointment. Lots of unusual varieties will be on sale at excellent prices”.
