Open Air Ice Rink Last year, the ice rink proved so popular that once again The Piazza area will be converted into an ice rink, capable of holding 150 people at any one time. Skate sizes start at a children’s size 8 and go up to adult size 12. Children aged 10 or under need to be supervised on the rink by a paying adult (18 years or over) and children aged 11 and 12 must be supervised by an adult from the rink side. Christmas Shopping and Parking Times Late Night Christmas Shopping The town centre shops will be open until at least 8pm with most major retailers including all of Kingsgate open until 9pm on 15, 22 & 29 November and 6, 13 & 20 December. The Market starts its late night shopping from Thursday 29 November and is open every Thursday thereafter until 8.30pm. Sundays 10.30am – 4.30pm Most shops are now regularly open. Other shops and Queensgate Market will open on Sundays in December. The week before Christmas Monday 17 December until 7pm Tuesday 18 December until 7pm Wednesday 19 December until 7pm Thursday 20 December until 9pm Friday 21 December until 7pm Saturday 22 December until 6pm Sunday 23 December until 4.30pm Monday 24 December until 4pm Wednesday 26 December until 5pm. Most stores are open on Boxing Day and some begin their sales. On Thursday 27 December sales start. Then shopping hours return to normal, until New Year’s Day when some stores are open from 10am until 5pm. Free Car Parking in Huddersfield this Christmas Kirklees Council have once again been preparing the town for the season’s festivities. Demand for parking increases, so please note the parking signs around the ring road as they will advise you where parking is available. Even at the busiest times parking is normally available at Cambridge Road Car Park and on Saturdays, parking will normally be available at the St Andrew’s Road Car Park. As in previous years, there will be free parking on street and in all Kirklees controlled car parks after 4pm on Thursdays from 15th November until 20th December. On Sundays, parking will be free all day from 2nd December until 23rd December on street and in all Kirklees controlled car parks. Remember that car parking is free on all bank holidays in Kirklees, so no charges are applicable on Wednesday 26th December and Tuesday 1st January. Boxing Day Bus Service Trials by Metro Between 9am and 6pm on Boxing Day half-hourly bus services on busy routes into Huddersfield will be funded by Metro. Operating a £2 flat fare for travel all day, each adult will be able to take one child free of charge. MetroCards and free concessionary passes can be used. www.wymetro.com. Don’t forget about the Free Town Bus that will help transport those weary legs and heavy bags around the town. |
