| What We Do : Crime Prevention Retail Crime Partnership A bi-monthly group organised by the HTCPL in conjunction with the police. Crime analysis and information on crime 'hotspots' is circulated. The only meeting where photographs of offenders are distributed to registered members. Community Rangers The HTCPL works closely with KMC Environment and Transportation Services to co-ordinate the Community Rangers scheme, funded by the Home Office. The Community Rangers scheme has three main objectives: To work with police and other agencies to reduce crime and fear of crime, the main role of the rangers is to observe and report. To report environmental problems such as rocking flags, potholes, litter etc to the appropriate Council department. To provide a 'meet and greet' and information service to all town centre users. Banning Orders A scheme to exclude shoplifters who have repeatedly committed offences, operated by 70 retailers and coordinated through the Kingsgate Shopping Centre with the co-operation of the HTCPL and West Yorkshire Police. How it works: All offenders are reported to the police and issued with warning letters. Those in receipt of two warnings are banned, and their photo is distributed to all participating members. The ban remains in force for two years and is only reviewed if the person does not re-offend within a twelve month period. |
CCTV / Retail Radio Creating a safer, more secure town centre with a focus on crime prevention as well as detection. The network helps members to reduce stock loss and improve staff safety, as well as reducing fear of crime and increasing community spirit. Connecting the subscriber with other subscribers, KMC's CCTV control room and patrolling police officers. |
